“The Call to Forgive, Part 1” (Philemon 8-16)

Summary

Paul’s point in writing to Philemon is to appeal to him to forgive Onesimus. He reminded Philemon of his love for Christ and how he refreshed the saints, and now Paul urges him to forgive his slave on the basis of love, his union and new character in Christ, and God’s providential plan over Onesimus’ life.

Outline

Three factors for forgiving one another:

I. Love (8-9)

II. New Nature (10-14)

III. God’s Plan (15-16)
